Acid Neutralizer
my acid neutralizer stopped working on my well. Can I unscrew the top and add media to the tank?
The top of the tank just has two PVC pipes attached to it. The word written on the top is upflow with an arrow. Before I cut the PVC pipes how can I tell that it unscrews and I can add media? Are there tanks that are not able to have media added to them and I need to purchase a new tank?
I would recommend you google the name of your conditioner so perhaps you can find the directions on how to go about adding media. You don’t have to cut pipes Mine has a hard rubber plug near the very top. I first have to set the valves so that water is diverted around the conditioner and then I can unscrew the plug — carefully with a pipe wrench. Some water will then leak out, and then I will siphon off about 4 gallons of water that is sitting on top of the existing AN. Instructions will be to add enough AN to come within x inches of the bottom of the plug. I have a funnel connected to a hard clear plastic (flexible hose) that is x inches long, so when I add the AN I can more easly tell when I have added enough.
Some models do not have the drain plug, and in that case the entire valve assembly has to be unscrewed from the top of the machine, which seems a bit too complicated for me. I hope this has helped — I bought a house that uses well water and has a water conditioner that uses acid neutralizer media and am still learning about it myself.
